Salesforce.com – Changing Themes in SF

By June 27, 2018No Comments

So to add a little flare to Salesforce.com’s lightning edition, they’ve added in Themes which can alter the look and feel of your company’s user experience.  In this post, we’ll just explore it a bit and what they look like (the out of the box themes).  Next tip I’ll actually go into the customization and creation of your own theme….

So as you could have guessed, we’ll start in setup, clicking our favorite gear icon in the upper right, then clicking setup.

Once there, use the quick search to find the themes area (I just type in “theme” and you’ll see it right away).

What shows up is the out of the box custom themes that come with Lightning Edition.  Assuming that they’ll add certain ones here and there but who’s to know.  On the right you’ll see which one is active, but the drop arrow next to each them allows you to view the theme (the actual images and such) or activate it.  Now, there’s also a preview option but I haven’t really been able to use it well (could be my browser, could be that I’m missing it, not really sure to be frank).

From here, what I did was just activate each one, go to my home page and reload the page.  The new theme will show up instantly.  Here’s a summary of each if inter ested:

  • Lightning Lite – Normal theme, a bit lighter in color (light gray), very easy on eyes
  • Lightning Blue – what everyone starts with
  • Cloudy Sky – not what I had hoped — was hoping for a nice dark gray, but it’s kind of a strange turquoise/green.
  • Lightning Ridge – here’s the color scheme, nice dark blue but a weird dark green up top.  Like the mountains, not a fan of the header but to each their own.
  • Codey Canyon – Whoo boy.  That’s some type of red alright.  Not my cup of tea but a very bright red background.
  • Einstein Relativity – This is a nice light blue.  I kind of dig this one actually, kind of like the default with a bit lighter a blue background.
  • Seasonal Flair – Guess this is the “wait and see” theme.  Right now a blue sky, not sure what’s next.

These summaries are all of course up to opinion, might get attacked in comments which of course is not my intention.  Just a personal thing for each, wanted to try and summarize and hopefully give some hints so you don’t have to activate each one like I did.  Check out the other tip this month for creating a new theme.
