Office 365: Microsoft Updating Default Save Location to OneDrive, Get Ready with “Known Folder Move”

By January 27, 2019No Comments

In the upcoming February update for Office 365, Microsoft is making a change to the default save location. Going forward, Office 365 programs will default to OneDrive and the “ctrl+s” dialog box will look a little different. Check out this blog post from Microsoft to learn more and preview the changes!

To help prepare for this update, I suggest going through the “Known Folder Move”, or KFM, process to move folders over to OneDrive. It’s easy to go through the KFM wizard.  Open OneDrive Settings:

Select the “Auto Save” tab, then select “Update Folders”:

Select the folders you want to protect (by syncing them in OneDrive–I suggest all 3!), then select “Start Protection”:

After this process is complete, the Documents, Desktop, and Pictures folders will be synced to OneDrive.
