Dynamics 365: Use a Field in a Related Entity in a Calculated Field

The title of this tip is a bit of a mouthful, but this is something I learned only recently and had to share! If you’re creating a calculated field and need to reference a field within a related entity, you can actually do so with a little syntax magic. Keep reading to learn how!

Head over to your calculated field.  Look for a lookup field into the entity you need to access and select it:

Now for the magic: add a period after the field you just selected.  A list of fields for that entity will pop up:

When you save your work,  you’ll see the related entity in parenthesis:
